Sr. Mechanical Engineer – Indianapolis, IN
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design, analyze, and coordinate mechanical systems that deliver safe, efficient, and high-performing buildings. This role focuses on healthcare, government, education, and institutional projects, supporting work from concept through construction. The ideal candidate is technically strong, collaborative, and capable of mentoring junior staff while contributing to innovative, code-compliant solutions.
Responsibilities
- Develop high-quality mechanical construction documents for HVAC, plumbing, medical gas, and ductwork/piping systems
- Ensure compliance with building codes, standards, and technical specifications
- Support project teams across disciplines, coordinating with architects, structural engineers, and other engineers
- Assist Project Managers with planning, resource allocation, and schedule management
- Participate in client meetings, design reviews, and problem-solving sessions
- Conduct site visits and construction administration to verify design implementation
- Prepare system narratives, Basis of Design documents, and specifications
- Mentor and coach junior staff, providing technical guidance and knowledge sharing
- Contribute to QA/QC protocols, process improvements, and template development
- Explore innovative mechanical solutions, energy efficiency strategies, and sustainable systems
- Engage in professional development, including training, conferences, and professional organizations
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s preferred)
- Minimum of 5 years of HVAC/mechanical design experience, ideally in professional services firms
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within 1–2 years
- Experience in healthcare, government, education, or institutional projects preferred
- Proficient in Revit (5+ years); AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience with Trane Trace 3D/700 or Carrier HAP preferred
- Strong technical knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, ductwork, piping, medical gas, and energy modeling
- Ability to work autonomously, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and client relationship skills
- Mentorship and technical guidance experience is a plus
- Knowledge of sustainable design practices and energy efficiency strategies
