Job Summary:
Walk-in Draw Lab is responsible for performing and analyzing laboratory tests on patient specimens, preparing reagents and solutions, and ensuring accurate documentation of results. This role includes maintaining and troubleshooting laboratory equipment, supporting other lab personnel, and collaborating with physicians and healthcare staff to deliver high-quality patient care in a pediatric hospital setting.
Job Responsibilities:
- Perform quantitative and qualitative laboratory tests on patient specimens according to standard laboratory formulas and procedures.
- Analyze test results, prepare samples for testing, and calculate findings while maintaining accurate records.
- Prepare and validate solutions, reagents, media stains, and other materials used in testing.
- Process and test all types of laboratory specimens; review and report lab results.
- Perform operational duties, maintenance, and advanced troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
- Act as a resource to other laboratory personnel, providing guidance and support.
- Ensure compliance with CLIA regulations for High Complexity testing.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare staff to support patient care.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or equivalent (including military training as defined by 42 CFR 493.1489).
- Registered or registry eligible with an approved certifying agency (ASCP, NCA, AMT, or CSMLS within 12 months of hire).
- Prefer 6 months to 1 year of experience as a medical laboratory technologist or clinical laboratory scientist in an acute care facility.
- Equivalency evaluation required for non-US trained personnel (ECE, NACES, or AICE within 30 days of hire).
- Licensure as required by the State.
Required Skill:
- Strong analytical ability to interpret and analyze test results.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with physicians and staff.
- Manual dexterity and visual acuity to operate laboratory equipment and closely examine specimens.
- Ability to troubleshoot and maintain laboratory instruments.
