Our manufacturing client, located about 1-hour NW of Philadelphia, PA is seeking a Principal/Sr Design Engineer to mentor other Engineers in mathematical calculations involving structural welds and load calculations. This role will design, analyze and test systems and associated components to ensure they meet established requirements. The Principal Engineer will prepares design specifications, mechanical drawings, test specifications and technical reports.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Develops and mathematically evaluates new products to meet and/or exceed established criteria through the use of a phased-gate New Product Development (NPD) process.
- Technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating assignments throughout the entire NPD process.
- Assembles prototype and pilot units to ensure design intent is met and makes changes where necessary prior to production launch.
- Makes decisions as required to keep development projects on schedule and to implement changes to existing products where necessary.
- Ensures that engineering deliverables comply with department/corporate procedures and applicable regulations and standards where applicable.
- Actively participates in cost reduction projects via component redesign and/or process improvements.
- Ensures that NPD process is being followed and documented according to established procedures.
- Actively studies the appropriate (provided) design specifications, requirements, and codes to achieve mastery of the product design space, including current product portfolio.
- Other related duties as assigned by the Engineering Manager.
Education/Experience
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or Civil/Structural Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university. At least seven (7) years related experience in a design (required) and/or manufacturing (preferred) environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proficiency in 2D and 3D modeling software necessary – Solidworks preferred
- Experience with mechanical/structural design analysis and analysis tools.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems extremely beneficial.
- Understanding of residential and commercial building codes and standards beneficial
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes related but not limited to sheet metal, machining, and welding preferred.
- Ability to work successfully with associates at all levels within the organization.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of programs.
