Position Summary
Job Description
As a Temporary Histotechnologist, you will perform daily, routine, and specialized histology techniques and procedures. Additional responsibilities of the Histotechnologist include:
- Preparing histologic slides from tissue sections for microscopic examination and diagnosis by pathologists
- Staining tissue specimens with dyes or other chemicals to make cell details visible under microscopes
- Cutting sections of tissues for microscopic examination using microtomes
- Mounting tissue specimens on glass slides
- Typing gross dictation if needed
- Special Stains
- Maintenance of laboratory equipment
- Volume per day will fluctuate 200+ specimens per day between 3 histotechs
Requirements
- Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Histotechnology or related Life Sciences/Health Sciences degree
- 1-3 Years of experience working as a Histotechnologist or Histotechnician in dermatopathology
- Must have recent dermatopathology experience
- Experience in embedding tissue, microtomy, H&E staining, labeling slides, filing slides, accessioning and grossing tissue
- Must be a team player and be able to work in a fast paced/busy environment
- Must be well-versed in computers and a quick learner
Desired/Not Required
- ASCP NOT required but preferred. American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) as a Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) preferably.
