Production Supervisor
Power Grid Manufacturing | Western St. Louis Region
A well-established metal fabrication company is preparing for significant growth within its Power Grid Division. With major new contracts coming online, the company is seeking a hands-on Production Supervisor who can lead people, improve execution, and help scale a growing operation.
This is not a “sit in the office and watch the numbers” position. The Production Supervisor will be visible on the floor, working closely with employees, addressing issues quickly, and holding the team accountable for safety, quality, productivity, and delivery.
The position will report directly to a highly respected General Manager who gives his leaders the support and autonomy needed to succeed.
The Opportunity
You will lead approximately 25 employees across a two-shift, non-union manufacturing operation. The workforce consists primarily of welders and machine operators supporting the production of components used in the electrical power grid market.
This division is entering a major growth cycle. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to strengthen the team, improve production flow, implement lean practices, and help build the operational foundation required to support increased customer demand.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and develop production employees across two shifts
- Establish clear expectations and hold employees accountable for performance
- Maintain a strong and visible commitment to employee safety
- Coordinate labor, equipment, and materials to meet the production schedule
- Monitor hourly production performance, efficiency, quality, and delivery
- Provide direct and timely feedback to employees
- Conduct regular toolbox talks and communicate daily priorities
- Identify production constraints and escalate issues before they impact customers
- Work closely with scheduling, materials, engineering, maintenance, quality, and HR
- Drive cross-training and workforce flexibility
- Support staffing plans, overtime requirements, and employee development
- Maintain an organized, clean, and efficient manufacturing environment
- Monitor equipment condition and ensure maintenance issues are addressed
- Investigate material or process nonconformances and support root-cause corrective action
- Implement lean manufacturing practices, including Kanban and visual material-flow systems
- Identify opportunities to improve throughput, labor efficiency, quality, and workflow
- Communicate shift performance and production concerns to senior leadership
The company also emphasizes safety leadership, production schedule compliance, hourly performance tracking, cross-training, equipment inspections, direct employee feedback, operational reporting, and collaboration across departments.
Ideal Background
- Five or more years of manufacturing experience
- Previous production leadership or supervisory experience
- Experience leading welders, fabricators, machine operators, assemblers, or similar skilled manufacturing employees
- Familiarity with sheet metal fabrication, welding, machining, or assembly operations
- Demonstrated ability to lead people, address performance issues, and enforce policies fairly
- Working knowledge of lean manufacturing principles
- Experience with Kanban systems, material flow, standardized work, and continuous improvement
- Mechanical aptitude and an understanding of manufacturing equipment
- Ability to analyze production data and solve problems at the root-cause level
- Comfortable using ERP systems and Microsoft Office applications
- Stable employment history with evidence of increasing responsibility
- Associate or bachelor’s degree is a plus, but not required
